Coming up short - using abbreviations on Web pages

You know, it's annoying to me that Internet Explorer 6 still does not support the <abbr> tag. I mean, it's been in the specification for years, why not add it in to the browser? But regardless of browser compatibilities, knowing how to use the <abbr> and <acronym> tags is useful.
