Advertising on your site is one way to make money

But how do you get people to advertise. Sure it's possible to just set up a Google AdWords account and then add the links to your site, but what if you want some of the more lucrative banner ads or rich-media ads? How do you find the advertisers willing to spend money to place these ads on your site?

Did you mean AdSense rather than AdWords?

An AdWords account is used to buy advertising on other sites. An AdSense account is used to display ads on your site.
