6 New Year's resolutions for beginning and advanced Web designers

Saturday December 30, 2006
It's that time of year again, the time when we look at our lives and think "ack!" Many people will be looking for resolutions to help them change their lives for the better.

So I've collected some ideas for tech resolutions that you can make that will help make your work as a Web designer easier or more enjoyable.
  • The About Personal Web Guide suggests 7 great resolutions for improving your Web pages. #2 is "get rid of all broken links" - do you think she'd be willing to come and fix mine for me?
  • I'm always looking for ways to make my business more successful, and the Small Business: Canada Guide has 10 suggestions. #10 is "Drop what's not working for you and move on." I can tell you that that resolution is one that can help a lot of people. It is very freeing.
  • Sometimes getting started is where it gets difficult. The site Smart Graduate School Applications has an article called "How to Get Started on Anything". Okay, maybe the reason I like this article is because it proposes drinking coffee, but it actually makes a good point about getting excited about what you need to start as a way to trick your brain into doing it.
  • One of the number one reasons that people fail at their resolutions is that the goals are too broad. Lifehack has 11 tools to help you complete your goals. If you have a big goal, chopping it down into little chunks will make it more manageable, and rewarding yourself for every milestone reached is a great way to stay motivated.
  • If your goal is to grow your business, but you don't have a lot of cash, then the SmartBiz article Make a Big Impression on a Small Budget can help. It's important to market your business, but you don't need to spend a lot of cash to do it.
  • And finally, if your goal is to build a new Web site for the new year, well, you're on the right site. Beginners and experienced designers alike can find help and resources. Learn HTML in just 10 weeks or start promoting the sites you own.

Happy New Year!

Here are some other resolution suggestions if the first 6 weren't enough.
