Finding layouts everywhere

Wednesday January 24, 2007
I was looking at the back cover of a book the other day, and thinking "that's a nice layout". So I decided to see if I could do something similar with a Web page.

This is the result. I call it the Two Column with Overlapping Layout. It uses a background image to get the green border on the left side. It doesn't look exactly the same in IE 6, but it still looks interesting, so I left it as it is. The two columns and the overlapping are still there, there's just additional whitespace.

Don’t you hate blog spammers? Good Lord, spamming people, GET A LIFE!

Jennifer, I’ve finally made my site 100% CSS. Your blogging has helped me keep web standards and semantic code in the forefront of my designing.

Thanks very much. This mind set has helped greatly.

Sean: thanks for the note I’m glad you’re finding the site useful.

Yes, I hate spammers, but luckily I have a few spam prevention tools, so only one or two get through and then I delete them as quickly as I find them. :-)

I love your layouts and enjoy receiving your newsletters via email.

Your comments about the spam prevention tools interests me, I’ve just had my comments and trackbacks disabled by my hosting provider thanks to spammers and hoped you might do a piece on the tools you use.
