I think the tag that I like the best is the <div> tag, because it's so flexible - you can do so much with it. But I think my favorite tags are the ones that enhance tables and forms, but are usually left out. Tags like <optgroup>, <label>, <fieldset>, <col>, and <colgroup>. These tags make it much easier to style tables and forms, because they give you more hooks to attach your CSS to. What is your favorite HTML tag? And why do you like it? Do you like tags that are not part of the specification like <layer> and <marquee>?

It’s the tag is my favourite. At first I thought it was such a useless tag, but after I learned CSS, it’s the best thing since sliced bread. The tag comes in a very close second.

I do not have a favorite HTML tag. HTML tags are like tools in a tool box. If You need a wrench find one that fits the bolt. I do have tags that I do not like. For the last year I have tried to make all My pages using valid XHTML. Because of this I think that all valid tags are useful in the proper place. The embed tag is one that bothers Me. It is like using a crescent wrench because it is easier than finding the right size wrench. Also any tag that is used to change the way content is presented should be avoided (even if they are valid tags presentation should be set with css.

AE: I’m with you on the embed tag. It annoys me that many modern browsers don’t support the object tag as readily as they support the non-standard embed tag. When I was playing with sound files for my sound articles, the only browser I could get to use the object tag was Safari. Very annoying!

I ever used “div” for many things… but I’m discovering so amazing things to do with “span” tag. This is more flexible than “div” cause can better used with “display:table-cell” or “display-block” grouping and centering contents on the screen, without lose flexibility even adding side panels…

I think we can discover new ways to use the most common tags (like “b”, for example, to round borders!!!)
;)

If you want to… ask me.

too, don’t know why but I use it all the time. Like with all its s inside also; they do mean something, while s don’t really mean anything but can be used to do a lot. Think I’m talking rubbish here so I’ll stop.
