It took me almost 5 years to find a Web hosting provider that gave me the services and features that I wanted and wasn't so expensive that I needed a second mortgage to cover the monthly costs. Like most developers, I started with a free hosting service and used my ISP hosting space for a long time. At one point, I even hid some personal pages on my work server (I don't recommend that). After that I hosted my sites myself for a few years, then finally moved to a colocation company. Part of the reason I bounced around so much was because I didn't think about all the things I would need from a hosting provider. Once I came up with my requirements, it was much easier to settle on AdHost. This article explains all the points to think about when deciding on a Web hosting company.
