Web Design Clinic - Deanzod Website Design

Sunday February 3, 2008

Deanzod Website Design Dean tells us that this site is a redesign, so I decided to look at it from that perspective. I took a look at it in the Internet Wayback Machine to see what it looked like a year ago. And then I based most of my comments on the changes I saw. Redesigns can be trickier than new designs, because you have customers you need to satisfy as well as new customers to attract. In this case, the focus of the site seemed to change a lot from July 2007 to January 2008.

My Thoughts
I like this site - it's well written and coded. There are some clichéd elements and some things that are hard to read. But overall, I think Dean did a nice job. Read my full critique.

How would you review this site?
Are there things I missed? What would you do to improve this site? Or is it perfect just as it is? Help Dean out by commenting on his site design.

Do You Want Your Site Considered for the Web Design Clinic?
There are two ways you can have your site reviewed by the readers at Web Design @ About.com:

  1. Post a request in the Site Review Requests folder in the Web Design forum. This is the best way to get feedback, as you'll get responses from other Web designers in the forum, and selected posts will be chosen for the Web Design Clinic.
  2. Submit your site to the Web Design Design Gallery and check the "solicit critiques" checkbox on the form. Pages submitted there will be reviewed by the About.com Guide to Web Design, Jennifer Kyrnin, and may be chosen for the Web Design Clinic.

Probably the best designed site posted here since… well ever. Well done Dean.

I have to say though, it’s not quite the direction I would have gone in. The header is all a bit self righteous but it’s still pretty well designed.

If you redesigned the header and made it a bit more subtle it would look better in my opinion.

Good job though.

I like this design, the reflection are good, and I don’t think there out of style yet. As a Photoshoper I get all kinds of jobs that still use this effect. If a lot of customers want it then I believe it’s still in style. Those links on the top is hard to see (your right on that), It should at least be the same color and font as the main links at the bottom of the banner.

Thanks for your review and comments guys. I have to admit, the links at the top were an unfortunate afterthought. I was reluctant to even have them there since I wanted to keep my header clear and rich. I agree the links do need contrasting a bit so I have made a slight adjustment. Hopefully an improvement.
