rel="nofollow" - What does it mean?

Most blog software these days will add links in comments and other user-generated content with the attribute
rel="nofollow"
This attribute was created by search engines to help prevent comment spammers from gaining linking credits by adding links to blogs. This simple attribute tells the search engine spiders to not follow any link with the attribute attached.
