Do you check the download speed of the pages you build?
If you don't check your page sizes, why not? Are there other tools you prefer to use to check page download speed? Let us know in the comments.

Checking speed is dependent on the content I include and the audience I publish to.
My wife’s dance school is in a semi-rural area with people still on dial-up, so graphics are limited.
B2B sites I have built are more graphic oriented and so I watch size and check load speed.
BTW, my favorite poll of all time is your, “Do you participate in polls” poll.
Checking page size is not enough. Typically, it’s the graphics called by a page that slow page display. You need to make sure the graphics a not too “heavy.”

I build my pages as lightly as possible, but fundamentally the content needs to be there and that trumps all.
Wow, thanks for that tip. I had an affiliate with a self changing banner that had changed to a huge file I didn’t know about. I was able to cut my index file size in half!
I keep each page + its graphics between 30-40kb. Interested users willing to wait for a 60-200kb image can click thumbnails to see high-rez pix. I always try to think of ways to save bandwidth for slow connections, because sometimes even a fat pipe can get clogged — network traffic, WiFI signals, being a spam zombie, etc…
