Poll: What are some ways that you promote your websites?

Thursday May 29, 2008
Promotion is a critical piece of Web development if you want people to visit your site. I realize that this poll left off "SEO". That is because I consider promotion to be an active attempt to get customers, while search engine optimization is more a passive adjustment to your sites in hopes of getting better placement in search engines, and from there getting customers.

If you don't do anything, why not? Do you not need customers? Or do you rely solely on search engines? (There's no shame in that, lots of pages are promoted solely through passive SEO.)

I think you may have left out of your list one of the most important promotional categories - PR.

I think that some SEO specialists would take exception of your calling it “passive site adjustment”. SEO can involve some pretty sophisticated analysis and also running link campaigns and testing. SEO and SEM are a lot about linking with the site adjustment being a given.

I also exchange links with other sites that have similar functions to mine, genealogy.
