What with the fun economics lately you might be thinking that a new computer is not on the horizon, but it's possible to find deals in computer hardware if you look for them. In the NorthEast NYC area, the MarketPro fairs are a good place to shop.
I purchased a HP Pavilion dv9000 for about $680 (refurbished) – I have just upgraded the wlan to Draft n – the only thing I regret (sometimes) is the OS Vista Home Premium but I also have Ubuntu as a dual boot.
The big 17″ screen is great, clients go “oooh” when I pull it out of my [large] bag.
I would not recommend the model for constant mobility as it is hefty, but it is perfect for me.
I also purchased an Epson 4-in-1 printer/copier/scanner/fax for about $80 (refurbished) but the replacement ink cartridges the dealer sold me didn’t work – I have yet to contact the seller about the problem.
