Which is the best free CSS editor?

Tuesday September 16, 2008
Speckyboy is running a poll to find out which is the best free CSS editor. What do you think? His choices are:
  • TopStyle Lite
  • CSSEd
  • JustStyle CSS Editor
  • Simple CSS
  • Eledicss
  • A Style CSS editor
  • TS Webeditor
I listed them above in my order of preference. There are lots of CSS editors available, both free and paid. When I work on a CSS page, I prefer to use a CSS editor included with my HTML editor, so I tend to use either Dreamweaver, Expression Web or TopStyle (when I use HomeSite). What CSS editor do you use?

Since I often use text editors (e.g. Notepad and TextPad), I use TopStyle Lite to create stylesheets or for quick CSS code building or to look up forgotten attributes or value types. When I use HomeSite, I use the integrated TopStyle Lite (that is where I was introduced to BradSoft’s TopStyle). I also setup TopStyle Lite as CSS editor for those times I use MS FrontPage and Nvu.

Occasionally, I use Amaya and make note of CSS information Amaya makes known; however, I have not used Amaya to code or create CSS.

When I do use DreamWeaver, I appreciate that style information is built in but not as much as I appreciate TopStyle Lite.

Now, I must find time to check out the other CSS editors you listed, Jennifer.

I use Notepad++.

It’s not specifically a CSS editor, but I think it does the job great.

TopStyle Lite are great, but it has 2 negative aspects: doesn´t have search and undo, which makes some tasks harder…
I also use Notepad++ to edit CSS and PHP.
