Why Do Designers Hate Blackberries?
Thursday November 20, 2008
ColorBurned asks the question: Why Do Designers Hate Blackberries? And I wonder it myself. The iPhone came out and it seemed like everyone had one (at least in my circles) - even I have an iPod touch, and I don't have or want a cell phone! Prior to the iPhone, I knew a lot of people who had Blackberries. But even then, I didn't know anyone who designed for them. In fact, until I saw the post by ColorBurned, I had never thought about viewing Web pages on a Blackberry. I'd always thought of them as being texting and email devices (as well as phones). Do you design for Blackberries? Are there special issues around how Blackberries display pages? What would you recommend to people who want to design for a Blackberry?

Interesting post, this is the first time I’ve heard of designing for a single type of mobile device, previously I’d really only heard of people designing for mobile devices in general. I’ve recently stated testing with different mobile emulators and I think with all the major browser developers now focusing their attention to mobile platforms soon there won’t be much difference between designing for desktops or any other devices.
