Interesting suggestion to increase traffic

Friday November 28, 2008
I, like most people writing Web pages, am always trying to find new traffic. I get disappointed when my site is not listed in external Web design resources and get excited when I hear of the success of a friend or colleague. This week, I read an interesting article on how to increase traffic using the Google image search. The idea is that not many people post images in a way that gets attention from Google, so when you do it right, you can get more traffic. According to Google, the most important thing to have is descriptive alt text and title in your image tag. But including the width and height is also important. Why not try it out and see how it goes. If you have nice looking images, it can't really hurt, and it might improve your traffic.

I can attest to this. One of my clients (who also happens to be my in-law) is frequently getting referrals to his site through Google Image Search. Ironically, this was not initially a targeted referrer during development, but it’s something I’ve come to think more seriously about as I continue to develop new sites.
