What do you think is coming in Web Design in 2009?
Wednesday January 7, 2009
Personally, I have trouble keeping up with today and yesterday without trying to guess what's going to be up and coming in the future. But if I had to make a prediction, I would say that 2009 will be the year of the mobile browser. With iPhones getting so popular, Blackberries doing even more with the Web, and all the cell phones with their own browsers on them, I think that mobile Web design is going to start being really important in 2009 (if it isn't already). I also think that social media like Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook are going to become more important to clients this year. Blogs are going out as companies want to reach their audiences more directly in a more social context, but blogs are still going to be wildly popular because they are so easy to set up and use. More and more people are going to start using frameworks to build sites because they allow sites to stay internally consistent and get built more quickly. And finally, I think that video is going to grow in popularity on websites. It's getting a lot easier to use video and browsers are starting to come together in how they implement it and support the HTML for it.

I think that “trend whore” will come back in. This was a popular style of design around the year 2000 and I think much of the design trends now are based off of that, but nothing has really captured the “in-your-face” look that trend whore had when it was around, good sites that were a part of this trend were carbonfour.com, and surfstation.lu. Real pioneers in design, at the time.
the first thing that came to mind when I saw this title was mobile browsing.
