Where do you find Web templates?

Thursday January 8, 2009
I really like the site Free CSS Templates.org because they offer lots of great free CSS and XHTML based templates available for free. But what other free template sites are out there? Why do you like them? Are there template sites you would avoid? Why?

I haven’t made much use of templates personally, but I do like the look ofOpen Source Web Design.

You can search 100’s of designs by various criteria such as color, contrast, columns, plus the designs are standards compliant.

I once found Unlimited web templates from LayoutsPack and use them constantly. It’s a membership based web resource, the quality of website templates is worth the money. By playing and tweaking with the templates I easily make unique designs.

I always keep in mind the old sayin, “You get what you pay for”. I have come across many of the free templates and find them too basic or not very attractive. In the I found that if I’m willing to pay for a template, I have access to many more professional looking designs using XHTML or Flash. Also, the sites don’t look like templates. I found what I was looking for at: www.thetemplateshack.com

I primarily develop sites with the Drupal CMS, so rather than using a page template, I use site-wide themes in PHP/XHTML/CSS

Often, I use a stripped-down version of the Framework theme and build a custom theme on that from the designer’s PSD

Theme Garden is a good site to see existing Drupal themes in action.
