Web Host Reviews - 15 New Reviews - Avoid Hosts that Aren't Just Hosts

Wednesday April 22, 2009

Choosing a Web host is difficult. While most hosts will have the minimum requirements, how do you choose between them after that? Well one good tip is to choose a host where Web hosting is their core business. If your Web hosting company is primarily something else and they just offer hosting as an add-on, they might be great but they might not be. Why take the risk?

I disagree with Jennifer. Too often big hosting companies cram each server full of so many sites that reboots often, your IP gets blocked by spam filters due to actions of other sites, and when you need tech support you get a low level, knows nothing ‘tech’. We lease servers mirrored in 4 locations, provide experienced (since 1999) and immediate addressing of any hosting/design problem, as well as the Design, SEO, SEM services or advice that websites need to be successful. I think companies like mine can be a very important asset to small, medium, and start-up companies. For example, look at all the crappy looking websites with poor SEO made with those ‘design it yourself online’ programs. They usually pay more monthly and they get little if any traffic, or hosting is free in trade for ad space on their pages that get filled with their competitors. Their owners have no clue of the opportunities they are missing out on, and they usually spend 3 to 10 times more hours designing it themselves than a experienced developer would. We redesign these sites all the time, then provide them with affordable hosting and continual marketing advice. The key is to always check references, especially the last 3 sites done. Ask for the urls, view them, then email or call and speak to the owner or person in charge of their online marketing.
