I’d say Apple. I like the horizontal graphical menu. I don’t think I’ve seen that before. Excellent — visually powerful and very functional.

(2) JD says:

The topic is ‘most original’, but most of these are the type of websites that have been around for years (Durango motors? Please, is that a joke?). Winntech wins this hands down.

The sites were all nominated by About.com readers. You were given the opportunity to nominate or solicit nominations for the sites you felt were most original. These were the ones with the most nominations.

Perhaps next year, you’ll nominate some sites rather than just complaining about the choices you’re given. :-)

I think Apple takes this list hands-down. And I don’t think their originality is restricted to the web. They’re original in EVERYTHING they do (iTunes store, computer design, interface…) and its only natural this extends to the web. I think their website is a shining example of using whitespace effectively, and I’ve tried to do the same on my website.

And their originality is the key to their success.

Omar

I also have a followup comment to JD. I checked out Winntech which ‘wins this hands down.’ Are you kidding me? I bet their bounce rate is high as hell because their homepage is a disaster. What is exactly their originality vs the rest of the competition here, having a horrible user design? Let me know how this site appeals to you please (I’m viewing it on Firefox).

Regards,
Omar
