CSSDesk is an online sandbox for trying out HTML and CSS solutions in real-time on the Web. While I found it had some problems with typing when using my Mac, it could be very useful for trying out simple things like drop shadows, rounded corners, and other tweaks. Note, this is not a browser emulator. It is more like an online editor. You could use CSSDesk to write an entire website, but it's better for just playing with small details.

sorry, it’s free software? i usually use notepad for html coding..i hope find a good free software to suppot my work…
For me it is also essential that tools like css playgrounds are cross-browser compatible because otherwise its just that: a playground with no purpose.
In the last month i developed an advanced web application called StyleKit that enables you load existing websites and modify their appearence like cssdesk BUT in realtime in any browser. This means you can open multiple browsers, edit the appearence in one and all others update themselves automagically. This means realtime cross-browser css-prototyping, have fun!
