Guestbooks used to be on every website out there, but these days the only place you tend to see them are on memorial sites to allow people to remmeber a loved one who has died. Have you used a guestbook? If you haven't used one for a few years, why did you stop? Please discuss in the comments.

Caringbridge is a fantastic website for someone with a medical issue. My husband received the Gift of Life 2 years ago when someone agreed to donate their loved one’s organs. He was in the hospital for 14 days and this website helped to keep our friends and family updated on his daily progress. This saved me from making a bunch of phone calls each day. Friends are able to sign the guestbook to leave encouraging messages for the family. I know of several families that have used this website and I have left messages on their guestbook page. If you know of anyone facing a medical issue please tell them about this website! Thank you!

Well, I have “used” guestbooks (on other site to leave a message to the bereaved; but have never “hosted” a guestbook.

Even hosting a forum on a web site proved dangerous as hacker/webbots/whatever were able to use that to gain access to my web site and hijack it or spam the forums. So, I cut off open membership and only create accounts for folks I know and trust.

Thanks.

I used a guestbook on the first 1 or 2 websites I built for myself, 10+ years ago. They are now pretty outdated and have been supplanted by blogging and the ability to leave comments on posts.

I used them as understanding how some PHP functions work, when I was learning PHP. But I think they’re equivalent to comment-posting applications.
