This is one of those questions I enjoy asking periodically. It’s interesting to me how my answers change as the years go on. In fact, this year I’m definitely in the “somewhat” camp — a lot closer to the “no” camp than I ever have been before. I’ve been using the WYSIWYG functions of WordPress for the last few months, and it’s surprisingly easy. The issues with WYSIWYG editors have become the exception rather than the rule, and the HTML that they create tends to be clean and readable in most cases. I’m not ready to give up my text based editors, but I do find it a lot easier to write content when I don’t have to think about the tags as much.
I’m still looking for the perfect blog editor, however. I love the WordPress built-in WYSIWYG editor for a lot of things, but I don’t like that it’s online only. I like to have backup copies of my work and I like the powerful search and replace functions of tools like Komodo Edit. Do you write blog posts (or web pages) offline? What editor do you prefer?
