Sometimes annoying people is good — it gets them engaged. Controversy can get people talking and can be fun. For example, I heard on the radio today that some group has named “Vertigo” the best movie of all time. Is that true? I don't know, but it's definitely going to annoy some people and get people talking.
But annoying people with your design can end up hurting you and your site more than it helps. These ten things do more to tick off readers than almost anything on the web. And these readers don't stay and chat, they leave. And if you're really unlucky, they convince all their friends to avoid your site too.
