Don’t Make Them Wait

“Your business is important to us, so please stay on the line [listening to our abysmal hold music] for the next … 5 … hours … and … 39 … minutes.…”

I have waited on hold for hours for things that I want (usually to get my computer fixed). But I have never waited more than 15 minutes for a web page to load. In fact, you'd be lucky if someone waited 5 minutes for your site to load. Most people don't wait much more than 10 seconds. It's important to understand what makes people wait through a phone queue but leave immediately from a slow site.
