I mentioned last week that Microsoft is closing down the Expression line in favor of merging it with the Visual Studio line. But you may not know a lot about this editor unless you are already a Windows application developer. In fact, I am still not very familiar with this product even though I had customers introduce it to me in 2010. Visual Studio is an IDE that can help you develop more than just web pages. You can use it to build mobile and desktop applications, web applications, and even Windows 8 tiles and apps. This is a very versatile application. It's also very expensive. But there is a free version—Visual Studio Express that you can use to get used to the IDE and familiarize yourself with the product line.
