Homesite includes a powerful tool to keep your HTML easily formatted and looking good. But the key to CodeSweepers is to create one that fits YOUR style.
Difficulty: Hard
Time Required: 30 minutes
Here's How:
- Click on the "Tools" menu, and scroll down to the "CodeSweeper" option and choose "Default CodeSweeper".
- Click on the "Configure CodeSweeper" button.
- Switch to the "General Settings" tab and change the first three items to "All Lower Case" to be consistent with valid XHTML. Change the fourth option to "Quote All".
- Switch back to the "Tag-specific Settings" tab.
- Start by reviewing the settings for each tag that is currently defined.
- Change the settings on the tags as you see fit.
- Very important: After changing each tag, click on the "Update Tag" button.
- When you've changed all the tags as you like them, click on the "Apply" button.
- Open an HTML document, preferably one that is very complex.
- Run the CodeSweeper you just created across that document.
- Go back and edit your CodeSweeper to fix problems you see. It often takes several tries to get a CodeSweeper perfect.
Tips:
- You can create multiple CodeSweepers for various projects and development tasks. I have a CodeSweeper for About documents, and another for Symantec documents.
- Check out the CodeSweepers that come default with Homesite to give you ideas of how your code might look.
