Why Should You Convert to HTML+CSS or XHTML?

By Jennifer Kyrnin, About.com

You may be thinking that converting an existing document or site that works fine with HTML would entail a lot of work for no benefit. But there are two good reasons for making the switch:

  1. The document structure of an XHTML or HTML+CSS document is a lot cleaner than before. It is very easy to see where the tables, divs, and content are in an XHTML document, because they are not crowded with font tags and other extraneous markup.

  2. The file sizes of XHTML and HTML+CSS documents are a lot smaller than their HTML counterparts. This means that they are faster to load and easier on your server bandwidth.
