XHTML 1.0 Elements / HTML 4.01 Tags

Learn the attributes and uses of XHTML and other HTML elements. There are many XHTML elements and this library includes all of them, as well as other HTML tags that are either not a part of the XHTML specification or are supported by some Web browsers. There are three ways you can look up the XHTML element or HTML tag you're looking for.

Alphabetical Listing

This lists all the tags with their elements in alphabetical order.

XHTML Modules Listing

The XHTML modules are a division of the XHTML elements into groupings. This allows user agents other than Web browsers to be more selective with the elements they support, while still being consistent with the XHTML standard.

Functional Listing

The functional listing is very similar to the XHTML modules listing, but it includes HTML tags that are not part of the XHTML specification. It also indicates information such as XHTML elements that are supported on user agents like MSN TV (WebTV) and AvantGo for palmtop devices.

  • Basic Elements
    The HTML/XHTML elements that are the primary parts of a Web page.
  • Text Elements
    The HTML/XHTML elements for manipulating text.
  • List Tags
    The HTML/XHTML elements for creating lists.
  • Table Tags
    The HTML/XHTML elements for creating tables.
  • Frame Tags
    The HTML/XHTML elements for creating frames.
  • Form Tags
    The HTML/XHTML element for creating forms.
  • Script Tags
    The HTML/XHTML elements that add scripts to documents.
  • Content Tags
    The HTML/XHTML elements that define document contents.
  • Block Tags
    The HTML/XHTML elements that manipulate blocks in a document.
  • Multimedia Tags
    The HTML/XHTML elements that add multimedia to Web documents, such as images, sound, movies, and Java.
  • Style Tags
    The HTML/XHTML elements commonly used with style sheets.
  • Internet Explorer Only Tags
    The HTML/XHTML elements that only work in Internet Explorer.
  • Netscape Only Tags
    The HTML/XHTML elements that only work in Netscape and related browsers.
  • MSN TV/WebTV Only Tags
    The HTML/XHTML elements that only work in the MSN TV/WebTV browser, and tags with special MSN TV/WebTV attributes.
  • AvantGo Elements
    The HTML/XHTML elements that work in the AvantGo browser for Palm OS and Windows CE.
  • Deprecated Elements
    The HTML and XHTML elements and attributes that have been deprecated in the latest version of XHTML.
