1. Adobe Photoshop CS 8.0

Photoshop is an essential tool for a professional Web developer. Yes, I know, it's expensive. But it's worth it. It's the best graphics modification program available. It allows you to make any type of change to images, create your own new images, and update your photos for perfect visual effect. Available for Mac and Windows.

2. Bradsoft TopStyle

Stylesheets are a vital part of the modern XHTML document. And TopStyle integrates well with HomeSite and Dreamweaver. Plus it offers a lot of features. It makes it really easy to add styles to Web pages, without having to remember all the properties. For Windows only.

3. Dell Laptop

While it's not vital that a Web developer have a laptop rather than a desktop, I like the freedom that having a portable computer gives me. I can work on my site wherever I go. 5. Logitech Cordless Keyboard and Trackball

Are you gathering that I don't like wires? Seriously though, a cordless keyboard and trackball are really nice. I have a Logitech ergonomic keyboard that helps me type longer. Plus, I use a trackball, as I find it easier to use even without flat surfaces, like on the couch.

6. (Adobe) Macromedia Dreamweaver 8

Dreamweaver is one of the best WYSIWYG Web page editors on the market. I like to use it when I'm designing a site. It makes it really easy to throw together ideas on a page and end up with valid XHTML at the end. For Windows and Macintosh.

And then there's HomeSite. HomeSite is my editor of choice for daily Web page editing. The color coding, the extended search and replace, the automatic saves, the XHTML support, the code sweeper, there are so many features about it that keep me using it day after day.

8. Gel Wrist Rest

Wrist rests are important for Web developers, because we do a lot of typing. That's why I have an ergonomic chair and keyboard as well. And I try not to type more more than 30 minutes without a break.
