Gatsby Software
from $395 for Windows NT with IIS Rating: 5.5 out of 10 |
Database to Web Software - Fully Functional, Limited in Scope
On the surface, Gatsby is a slick database access software application for the Web. It's fairly straightforward to use and offers all the data access tools you would expect to create a dynamic Web site. It works well as a first version software effort.
However, there are some missing links. Its reasonable price, at $395 for one Web site with one database makes it appealing to small businesses, but it only runs on Microsoft IIS. This wouldn't be a drawback except for two details, 1. Apache is the most popular Web server software on the Internet and 2. No where in the documentation (on the Web site) could I find this requirement.
Gatsby offers the typical database integration, with point and click access to your data and files. It will build forms and interact with your data so that you don't have to pay attention to the database back end as much.
If you have an existing Microsoft Access database that you would like to get Web enabled, you can, with some work, use Gatsby software to do it. Gatsby Software, Inc. even has Web hosting options if you don't have a Web site already. This software is good for the intermediate IIS Web site administrator who wants to take their site to the next level.
