Sometimes it can be so hard to find that perfect gift for someone. Well, if
they design their own web pages, you need look no further. This is a list of
some of the more essential tools of the Webmaster trade, and some stocking stuffers.
- A computer should be first on the list
I know, most people who design Web pages already have a computer, but
most Web Developers I know wouldn't sneeze at a new Toshiba
Infinia if only to run their personal Web Server on.
Okay, so maybe $1600 is a bit much for a present, but if it isn't, first on my
list would be:
- A laptop computer
A laptop allows your Webmaster friends to design
pages where-ever they go.
Of course, this wouldn't be complete without:
- A wireless modem
I must admit that when I first heard of wireless
modems I wanted one, bad. I think that's why Web Developers
have spouses...
But seriously, some of the more useful things out on the market for a
Webmaster right now are:
- HTML editors
I don't actually use one (I use a text
editor), but some of them have useful features, like a spell
checker. I have found that the editor in Netscape Communicator (and
Navigator) mangles the HTML the least of all the editors I've tried.
Adobe PageMill was pretty easy to use, and FrontPage had nifty
features. My husband uses Hot
Dog.
- Graphics programs
I prefer to use Adobe Photoshop. If that is a bit expensive, you
can get Paint
Shop Pro which has many of the same features, and is available for
evaluation as shareware.
I hope that these give you some ideas for what to give your favorite Web
Developer.
