Place Your Files in a New Folder

Jennifer Kyrnin

The first thing you should do when creating a new Web site is to create a separate folder to store it in. I like to store my Web pages off a folder called HTML in my "My Documents" folder, but you can store them where you like.

  1. Open your My Documents window
  2. Click File > New > Folder
  3. Name the folder my_website

Important

Always name your Web folders and files using all lowercase and without any spaces or punctuation. While Windows allows you to use spaces, many Web hosting providers do not, and you'll save yourself some time and trouble if you name your files and folders well from the beginning.
