Question: Do Mailto Forms Only Work if the Customer Has a POP Mail Client?

I got the following question from Jay:

I have been told that those only work if the person sending the email has a pop 3 server. (like Outlook) and people with emails like yahoo can't use them. Is that true?

Answer:

It depends upon the reader they have. Some Web email clients can be set up as the default mail client - so when they click on the form, that Webmail client works. But yes, this is one of the drawbacks to using email forms.
