Joan learned the hard way that Flash, while really nice looking, can be hard to optimize for search engines. There are ways to do it, but if your designer doesn't take the time, you could end up with a site that no one can find - even if it is really pretty.

I hired the head of a branch University IT and Graphic Design program to do my website. I felt like I did allot of the design and correction myself but eventually had a website that I liked. I sent him a check in the mail and did a search for my site. NOTHING! I called and emailed him and found that he had built my site totally in Flash and so no search engine was going to find me. I canceled my check but couldn't talk to him for a few days. I left a message telling him what I'd done and said that I wanted a website that accomodated my needs and then would pay him. He hasn't spoken to me since and I have no website.

BEWARE OF FLASH if you want a search optimizable site!
