We all know that we should test our pages and sites in as many browsers as possible. But man, is that ever tedious! And when you've got bosses and clients breathing down your neck for the design, it can be tempting to skip it. Especially when you're getting tips from "well-known sources" as Jane did. After all, they wouldn't steer you wrong, would they?
I am designing a new site for a client using tips from some well-known sources. My primary browser is Firefox and with each change I reviewed the results and moved forward (you know what's coming!!). When I was nearly finished it occurred to me to take a look at Internet Explorer and the results were incredibly bad. I know better, but didn't do a "dip" check throughout the process.
The lesson learned again: If you stop and check how it's going, check as many ways as you can to prevent the "oh @#$% at the end... Thank goodness I didn't try to launch....
Moral: always test, even if you're using something from the About.com Web Design / HTML site. While I would never steer you wrong... I can't guarantee that tips from my site will not interact badly with tips from some other site and leave you with a browser-incompatible mess.
