Text editors are HTML editors that allow you to manipulate the HTML tags directly. Some HTML text editors also include a WYSIWYG editor, while others are purely text. This is my list of the best HTML text editors for Windows.
11. PHP Designer
PHP Designer is primarily a PHP Web page editor, but as such it works really well. It has extensive support for all the features of PHP that most developers will use including database support. If you're interested in learning PHP or even if you don't use it much at all, this is a fine Web editor.12. HTML-Kit
HTML-Kit is a free text editor with a lot of features. It's one of the more popular ones available for Windows. It has tag completion and HTML and CSS validation and a lot of features you wouldn't expect in free software. The only issue I have with it is that it doesn't default to XHTML, you have to convert your documents to that. Many of the About.com Guides use HTML-Kit because it is so easy to extend and make macros for. It is also one of the only free editors I've found with support for accessibility validating.13. Rapid PHP Editor
Rapid PHP Editor starts out as a PHP text editor, but it offers a lot more than that. The main things that keep this from being a premiere-class Web editor are that it doesn't have a WYSIWYG mode, link checker, or spell checker. But this is a very high quality editor.14. Aptana Studio Community
Aptana Studio community edition is an interesting take on Web page development. Instead of focusing on the HTML, Aptana focuses on the JavaScript and other elements that allow you to create Rich Internet Applications. One of the things I really like is the outline view that makes it really easy to visualize the DOM. This makes for easier CSS and JavaScript development. If you are a developer creating Web 2.0 applications, Aptana Studio is a good choice.15. UltraEdit Studio
UltraEdit Studio offers all the great features of UltraEdit plus a bunch more. For a Web designer the biggest help will be the version control features that are included as well as Ruby support and new PHP functions added. One of the things I really like is the ability to name (and save) your favorite search strings - this makes it easy to automate tasks and be more efficient. It also has version control built in, which is really useful if you work in a team environment.16. Coffee Cup HTML Editor
I've always liked the CoffeeCup software. They do a great job of providing what the customers want for a low price. Plus, with free upgrades and support for life, the cost of their products becomes next to nothing. The CoffeeCup HTML editor is a great tool for Web developers. It comes with lots of graphics, templates, and extra features - like the CoffeeCup image mapper. And I've found that if you request a feature, they will add it or create a new tool to take care of it. I love CoffeeCup!17. UltraEdit
UltraEdit is a text editor, but wow, it's got a lot of the features usually found in tools considered to be Web editors exclusively. If you're looking for a powerful text editor that can handle nearly any text situation you might come across, then UltraEdit is a great choice.18. Aptana Studio Pro
Aptana Studio professional edition is an interesting take on Web page development. Instead of focusing on the HTML, Aptana focuses on the JavaScript and other elements that allow you to create Rich Internet Applications. One of the things I really like is the outline view that makes it really easy to visualize the DOM. If you are a developer creating Web 2.0 applications, Aptana Studio is a good choice. The professional edition adds features like secure FTP, Internet Explorer JS debugging, JSON support, and customer service including one year of updates.19. KompoZer
KompoZer is a good WYSIWYG editor. It is based on the popular Nvu editor - only it is called an "unofficial bug-fix release." KompoZer was conceived by some people who really liked Nvu, but were fed up with the slow release schedules and poor support. So they took it over and released a less buggy version of the software. Ironically, there hasn't been a new release of KompoZer in over a year.20. Namo Web Editor Pro
Namo might not be a name you've heard of, but it's a Web suite that deserves looking at. Its graphics and Web editing tools are great and easy to use, and best of all the price is more affordable. Namo Web Editor Pro comes with a Flash editing program as well as a graphics program.Do you have a Web editor that you absolutely love or positively hate? Write a review of your HTML editor and let others know which editor you think is the best.
