iSSH - iPhone App

Screen shot by J Kyrnin

The Bottom Line

This app is a nice ssh client. It provides the tools a developer needs without tons of extraneous ones. If you need to connect only periodically, this is a good choice for iPhone SSH.

Pros

  • Lots of options to convfigure
  • RSA and DSA keys
  • Save configurations for different servers
  • Multiple simultaneous connections

Cons

  • Doesn't support tunneling/VNC
  • Can't customize colors
  • Login commands didn't work in my tests

Description

  • Does SSH and telnet connections.
  • Emulates VT100, VT102, VT220, ANSI, xterm, and xterm-color terminals.
  • Landscape and portrait mode.
  • Connect to multiple sites at once.
  • Set up commands to run after login.
  • Three fonts and many different sizes.
  • Generate RSA and DSA keys.
  • Email buffer contents.

Guide Review - iSSH - iPhone App Review

iSSH works great as an SSH client for the iPhone. It connected to my servers without a problem and as able to read and send the keys. I couldn't get the login commands to work, but that was a minor problem and may have been because of my server.

Some other issues I had were common to most iPhone SSH apps:

  • The font size didn't stay consistent
  • Text would slide below the keyboard and be inaccessible

I also don't like that it breaks the connection if you switch out of the app. But this is standard iPhone behavior.
