Comments from developer: This is a redesign. Trying to keep a modern feel with easy navigation and clean code. One of the main targets was trying to make the site easy on the eye as well as doing its job.
Comments from Jennifer Kyrnin: Since Dean states that this is a redesign, I was really curious to know what it looked like before, so I went to the Internet Archive and looked it up in the Wayback Machine. Now, I don't know that this is the design that Dean moved from, but I have to say I like this new design a lot more than the old one. What's interesting to me is that between July 2007 and Jan 2008 (when this page was submitted) the focus of the site seemed to switch from Web hosting to Web design. Although, from the title of the old page - the focus was still on Web design even though the page content focused on hosting. So from that standpoint, I think this design is a huge improvement.
What I Like
- The HTML - it validates as XHTML transitional, and is very clean and easy to read.
- The CSS - it also validates and is clean and well commented.
- The Images - they are all well designed and very small which makes the whole page download more quickly.
What to Improve
- The text in the top navigation appears to be for existing customers, but the text is small and the color blends in. This might be frustrating for new customers trying to find their control panel. I would test this to see if other positions, colors or font sizes might work better.
- The reflections in the images is getting somewhat clichéd. While it looks fine here, Dean might want to consider dumping that effect.
- The more and more info links could be converted into text that says what the reader will get when they click. This would have the benefit of improving search engine optimization (links get higher value than plain text) and helping customers to know what's going to show up after they click.
