Top Searches
Write About What People are Looking For

By , About.com Guide

Top searches are the most popular searches for a specific time period. Google calls top searches trends. Yahoo! calls top searches Buzz. If you're writing a website and want people to visit it from search engines, one strategy for building content is to create content that people are searching for.

When you know people are looking for something you write about, it can be inspiring to add content about it. Because you know that people are likely to see it.

Keep Your Top Searches Content Relevant

One thing to keep in mind is that if you're going to write content based on top searches, you should keep it relevant to your website. If you write a website about food, and you see that Eva Plumb is rising in the top searches, you shouldn't just throw out an article about her. But if you get the opportunity to interview her and it turns out that she's really interesetd in baking cakes - you could create an article on that.

When you're writing for your website you should always think "Customer First". Top searches are a tool you can use to find content ideas that are popular, not a way to create a website that has no cohesion. Your regular customers won't thank you if you stop writing about food and start writing about whatever is as the top of Yahoo! Buzz.
