I have to admit, some of this is my own fault for not acting on the increased inconvenience of hosting with Smarty Host - I should have got out a lot sooner than I did! These guys are amateurs and they don't care about their customers. Take your business somewhere else - I have!!
Pros:
Based in my country (Australia)
Reasonably cheap
Have spoken to some good technical support people
Attempting to improve their services (at least it seems so)
Cons:
100+ spam emails a day - terrible spam filtering
My email getting stuck on their servers rather than going smoothly through my forwarding
Taking 3+ days to respond to my suggestion that I might take my business elsewhere
Not even bothering to get my name right in an email after I've already corrected them once
Not giving me any indication that they value my business and would care if I stayed or left
Comments: Technical problems I experienced were being inundated by 100+ spam emails a day because their spam filters are so weak. Also, my mail would just back up on their servers for no apparent reason and I'd find out I had 1300+ emails that had never got through to me. Nobody was even interested in explaining that to me.
