What do you write about in your blog?
Topics of interest to small business owners who either don't have a website yet, or aren't sure that their existing website is performing for them. Things like: getting started, evaluating your website, content management systems, google analytics...
Why did you start your blog?
Because I knew how daunting it could be to get started with a website, for a non-technical business owner. Who do you hire? How do you choose them? How do you know if they did a good job? What should be on your site? Why do you need a website anyway? I wanted to help.
Advice
- Navigation matters - make it clear and easily understandable - a visitor to the site should know what to click to find what they're looking for, and know what they'll find if they click on something.
- html/css validation - such an easy way to maximize your odds of being compliant on multiple browsers
- QA - once you're done implementation - check it out. Go to every page, try every link, try all standard browsers...
- speed - if you've got fantastic images on the site, make sure they're compressed - if a visitor has to wait 20seconds to load the home page, they're probably not going to wait for it
