Why I think this design works
This design works for three reasons:
1) Simple Navigation - The site's simple navigation ensures that visitors can find relevant information quickly and easily, regardless of where they are on the website. The "wide" information architecture created by the navigation also makes it easier for search crawlers to navigate our site and index every public page.
2) Textured Theme - By layering multiple background images we were able to achieve a level of depth and texture not seen on most websites.
3) No Flash - By sticking to only jquery animations we were able to make our portfolio site load quickly and be viewable in most platforms - including web browsers on mobile devices.
