Why I think this design works
The website works for many reasons number one is that the website has the high quality of design that the print version has. The design does not rely on gimmicky or superfluous design. It is designed for those who expect the best and it delivers. The animations are well paced, and minimal. This home page is an ideal usage of a table of contents metaphor, the user can quickly navigate the contents of the web with out the negative surprises that confront many websites.
The placement of the advertising is more effective placed down on the page. Having the video run below the fold encourages scrolling down the page with out feeling put-a-upon.
The design encourages exploration and use.
There is an underlining grid structure that hold all elements together.
Tips and Tricks
- Design lessons learned in the print world are still very valid
- Design for the whole page, Think in term of attraction to lower page elements.
- All Items are important
- When a company is part of a conglomerate a connection can still be made and keep its individual identity
