Reader Stories: What Was the Best Thing to Happen in Web Design in the Years 2000–2009

Web design has come a long way from the 1990s when we barely used CSS and the height of style was a rainbow horizontal line graphic and blinking "under construction" sign. But there have been some really great developments. DHTML and now Ajax come to mind. As well as CSS for layouts and browsers that support it.

What are the best things that happened in the Web design world in the last decade (2000–2009)? Was there a tool that came out that shouldn't have or maybe a technique that designers used heavily that should go out to pasture.
