Uptime describes the amount of time a Web host is up and running. Most hosts decribe their uptime in the 95-99% range. Are uptime guarantees important to you? Find out what others feel about uptime and share your thoughts. Is Uptime Important & Why

Yes, they're important

I started a long time ago with a host that guaranteed 95% uptime, but then I realized that that was really low. So I switched to a provider that offered 99.9% upteime. Of course, now there are sites that offer 5-nines or 99.999% uptime, but I don't make enough money from my sites to need that.
