What Fonts Annoy You

Arial Font

My huge pet peeve is when Arial is used throughout a website and especially when used for body text. It works fine for small titles on links. Sorry, but it just looks unprofessional when used for everything. Just as bad are the "straight quotes" that usually go with it.

Overused Fonts

Reguardless of whether it is in print or on the web, Curlz MT and Comic Sans nauseate me- as do the fonts Jokerman, Chiller and the like- they just scream "done in Microsoft Office", and thus there is nothing graphic-design-esque about them. Beware the familiar and quirky home fonts that ameteurs just love!

Multiple Fonts

One of my biggest pet peeves pertaining to typography is the use of multiple fonts and inconsistent fonts. Nothing is worse than not being able to tell which text is important and which is not because a Web page uses different fonts with no apparent order. I usually use two font families on my Web sites (headers and body), and use bold or italics to differentiate text. I find this makes text easier to read, and looks much more professional.
