I have had clients who called me every 10 minutes when I was working on a design for them, asking, in effect, "are you done yet?" over and over. I have had clients who emailed me with ideas all day long. One memorable client wanted me to bill his company at a rate 75% lower than my normal rate. When I complained that that wasn't the rate I charged he said "oh, just submit hours so that you're paid the right amount." In other words, he wanted me to lie on my time sheet. I fired all these clients. Why? Because by firing those clients I freed up more time in my schedule to work with clients that were cost effective.
Firing Web Clients
- I had a client who asked me to design a web page that was more than 10,000 words, so you scrolled and scrolled. Then he wanted to indent each paragraph. He did not like the design because I indented the paragraphs 10 pixels, he wanted them to be half an inch. He wanted interesting buttons but could not specify what interesting was! He made me change the bullets atleast 5 times because they were not interesting. He didn't like any stock pictures. He was a grouch and was rude and told me not to waste his time. In the end I was just not interested :) He had wasted enough of my time. I lost a lot of time but I was pleased that he lost his money too. He is selling a book and I bet he hasn't sold even one!!

Strengthening my resolve 2 fire a client
- Have only fired one client so far - wouldn't pay bills. I had to take down her website in order to get her to pay the bill (took two years!). I now need to fire another one who's just too time consuming and annoying. This article strengthened my resolve and reinforced method and approach. Thank you!
