Primary Computer
My primary computer for web development is a Dell Celeron desktop with 4 GB RAM running Slackware Linux 13.0. Slackware defaults to the KDE desktop environment, but I normally use the Fluxbox window manager.
Primary Software
I use a combination of WYSIWYG and text editors to develop sites. I like to draft them in WYSIWYG, then fine tune them for validation with a text editor. Lately, I've been using the Kompozer WYSIWYG editor.
I tend to use the Kate text editor most often; it's nicely color-coded for web design.
I reviewed Kompozer today and posted some screen shots, for what it's worth.
Kompozer is a fork of the old NVU HTML editor project, which was managed by Linspire. Linspire is no more and the NVU name is dead.
I use HTML Tidy for final clean-up.
My primary personal browser is Opera, which includes excellent development tools (Opera Dragonfly) and, because of Opera's commitment to standards-compliance, is great for testing.
I also test in Firefox, Konqueror, Chrome, Internet Explorer running under WINE, and any other browser that happens to be lying around on my hard drives.
If I have to, I'll fire up a Windows computer, but I try to avoid that. Life's too short.
