Sitemaps can be a benefit to sites, but they can also be a huge chore. Find out why other developers use Google sitemaps and why they don't. And share your own thoughts on using this XML specification. Share Your Thoughts

Xml Sitemaps vs. Translator

I'd LIKE to use a xml sitemap, but I have automated translation software that runs on the site too. It automatically generates pages in various languages when the user clicks a flag. I havn't found out any way to sitemap these 'pages that don't always exist' (it's a script, they're not duplicate pages sitting on the server) And since I don't know scripts (at all) the whole process mystifies me. I do wish there was somewhere to go to find answers for something as complicated as this.

Tool for this job...

There are several software which do this job, indexing the site. One of this is CoffeeCup Software's Google SiteMapper http://www.coffeecup.com/google-sitemapper/ . The only problem is that is shareware, but I can say it's good in it's trial period.

Sometimes

It mostly depends upon how much I can automate it. I created a few sitemaps a few years ago but it was a huge pita to maintain them without something like the WP plugin. So now the only sites I maintain sitempas on are those on WordPress.
